I’m Mariel Chapoy, Mexican in skin, soul, and heart. I’ve been living in Playa del Carmen for almost 20 years, and for over 17 of those, yoga has been an essential part of my path. At first, I found it as a way to heal, but I soon realized it was so much more: a deep journey of transformation, presence, and reconnection with who I truly am.
My spiritual search began at a very young age, through art, dance, theater, fire, and movement. That journey gradually led me to yoga—and with it, to inner practice, devotion, study, and the creation of community.
In 2011, I started teaching, and today I’m the founder of Kopo Yoga, a shala born from the dream of living through yoga and sharing it from the heart. It’s a space to connect with nature and with oneself, where I offer powerful, conscious, and intentional classes, as well as workshops and experiences that awaken and support personal processes.
I truly believe that the yogic path is medicine for the soul. Through the body, the breath, and presence, we remember who we are. That is my mission and the reason behind everything I share.
Meet Madi – kinesiologist and one of the head coaches for Nomad Abs. After attending the group fitness classes, she knew right away, she had to be part of the largest fitness community that was making movement accessible to all and rooted in connection.
Madi grew up playing every sport you can imagine in a small city in Canada, so fitness and sportsmanship became second nature to her until she was injured. She felt totally lost without her team and her normal training. She had to start all over again. From that moment she practiced and devoted her time to understanding the body – in which it became her studies in university.
She creates a space for you to move your body in ways that might be challenging and to progress that looks unique to you. She shares her education with you so you can take her teachings anywhere to feel confident that you can continue your journey and reap the benefits for years to come!
